In 2009 Crossroads Bible Church responded to Josiah Venture’s request for help to conduct an English Camp for Slovene students who desired to learn and practice English. Fast forward 11 years, our 2018 team was the 8th such team to help with this camp.
We could not have done it without the support of prayer partners, financial partners and a great group of students and adults willing to give up summer vacation and months of preparation to go and serve. The location is beautiful but don’t let that fool you. These team members work hard and spend long hours serving JV and the campers.
The team worked with Zala Cempre who came to Christ as a result of attending the English several times. Ljubljana Evangelical Christian Church who are a church partner of CBC invited Zala to work with their youth in 2013. In 2016 she joined the JV Staff and continues to work with LECC youth.
Excerpts from Elder Report…
…We were so impressed by the level of commitment our team showed. Each member went above and beyond what was asked of him or her--even when it was well outside a comfort zone!
…I was forced to rely on God and focus on the fact that He meets me where I am and will use me no matter how I feel about myself. I felt my fears and insecurities melt away as I turned my focus from myself and how I felt to God and His plan for the trip. It was a good lesson to learn and a very humbling experience.
…Sometimes it's extremely hard for me to believe that God truly loves me, since I cannot physically feel his love. One of the talks covered this topic, and in that moment, I really felt the love that God has for all of us.
…For the most part, many of these kids feel invisible and unaccepted. They live in a very tough environment. Their culture and families know really nothing of a loving caring God, so they live lives of trying to be good enough or smart enough to fit in and be accepted.
